What is the best way to map salt features in Kingdom?
I have a 3D seismic cube in the Gulf of Mexico, and I want to map the salt canopy above a hydrocarbon reservoir. In Petrel, I used multi-z for this, but there doesn’t seem to be an equivalent in Kingdom. I was told to use reverse faults, which worked for the salt domes, but not the salt tongue. When I used reverse faults for the salt tongue, it formed a whole bunch of fault surfaces between the upper and lower limits of the salt canopy. Any suggestions?

IHS Kingdom doesn’t support multi-Z type horizon interpretation. Representing the top and base of the salt canopy with a reverse fault is OK, but only for display purpose. The fault picks are treated as horizon picks when reverse fault surface is automatically generated. That’s why you see fault surfaces in zig-zag fashion and not following your picks for the top and base of the salt body. By the way, you can hide the fault surfaces from the Fault Surface Management under “Display”.

LikeI have been trying to come up with a good way to map salt for almost 3 decades in TKS. Working on it.

LikeWell there is the old TOS1, BOS1, TOS2, BOS2 method which a lot of folk use but I think this is something TKS has shied away from over the years

LikeI’m not familiar with those methods. Could you please explain them?
