## how to calculate the dip angle of a horizon or make a dip-angle map?

I want to quantify the slope angle of my horizon. That brings two questions:

1. Since my seismic is time migrated, I believe I need to incorporate my RMS velocities to do depth-conversion. So how should I perform that in IHS Kingdom?

2. It seems that either Dip of Maximum Similarity or Instantaneous Dip is not really the correct attribute I need. So which attribute I should use?

You can do the depth conversion under Tools > Depth Conversion.

Once you have your depth grid ready, you can follow the below steps to calculate true dip of a depth map:

– Tools > Calculators > Extended Math

– Select Grid as surface type input

– Assign your depth grid to a number on the right, i.e “A”

– Select “Derivative” under Category

– Double click on “dip_depth” under Function to use it on the Formula line

– Complete the formula as dip_depth(A)

– Compute
