How can I enhance imaging a flat-spot on 3D seismic data?
I have identified a flat spot as one of the Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators (DHI) on my 3D seismic data, but the data quality is not so great to see it clearly. I was wondering if there is a way of enhancing the imaging of this feature?
Sometimes, data may not reveal information at the desired level of detail in special occasions. There is one way of improving the visibility especially the features like flat-spots. It is called “optical smashing”, some refer it as “optical stacking”, too. It is simply adding parallel in-lines or cross-lines of 3D seismic with the following steps:
– Tools>Trace Calculations>Trace Calculator
– Select Survey, Seismic Data Type>Subset Volume
– Choose the most representative in-line or cross-line over the target feature and assign it as A
– Repeat the above selection for more additional lines and assign them consecutively like B, C, D, etc. It is really up to the size of the seismic event how many lines you can include in the optical smashing.
– By using the keypad, type A+B+C+D in the Formula line
– Make your selection for the output data and Compute
All the events would be usually diminish due to destructive interference, but on the other hand, the imaging flat spot will be enhanced.
